Bedy’s Story

Bedy is my mother-in-law, and she is without a doubt one of my favorite people in the world.

When I think about her, the last part of that title usually drops off in my head and I think of her, genuinely, as a mom.

Her story of health is one that I’ve encountered a lot, one that is similar, in ways, to my own.

She’s struggled with weight gain and loss, joint aches and pains, thyroid issues, and sleep issues.

Except for the thyroid issues, these are all things that I have experienced as well and I’m positive that neither I nor my mom are alone in this.

The cool thing about starting your wellness journey is that none of those things must be something you live with for the rest of your life.

Life can be so much better!

For most of my adult life and my adolescence as well honestly, I struggled with health, whether it was physical, emotional, or mental health.

I always approached health as though the only thing that mattered was numbers on the scale, that my physical well-being was directly and only tied to how much I weighed.

That ignorant and destructive belief was really ingrained in me as a child, but it had a lasting impact on me through the bulk of my adulthood.

Health is more than just what you weigh. And that number will go down if you think differently.

It took me a long time, until I was almost 40 years old, to finally learn that true health was more than just the number on the scale.

True health to me now is:

  • No more depression and anxiety
  • Increased strength and endurance
  • Increased lean muscle mass
  • Decreased body fat and improved body composition
  • Lack of daily headaches and joint pain
  • Improved sleep and recovery at night
  • No bloating or gastrointestinal issues
  • True joy and contentment
  • Physical independence

Health is holistic. It is only true health when your physical, emotional, and mental well-being are improved.

I began working with my mom to start improving her health a few years ago, primarily focused on improving her strength, which is critically important for women especially.

Through the last several years she and Dad have been trying to find a sustainable way to stay healthy and for a while, they focused on trying to do keto but even that wasn’t enough.

Just before Christmas last year, she and Dad started asking me questions about the carnivore way of eating and, honestly, I could not have been more excited when they did.

Choosing to go carnivore can change your life.

While it’s not a cure-all, going strict carnivores can help with a lot of physical ailments.

There are thousands of people who have put type 2 diabetes into remission, gotten themselves out of metabolic disease, and managed their auto-immune conditions with very little medication.

January is World Carnivore Month. If you decide to go strict carnivore for the next 90 days, I’ll do it with you and support you.

This was what I promised my in-laws. That if they tried it out, if they tried the most anti-inflammatory diet there was out there to help their bodies heal and get themselves back on track for their health journey, I would be right there with them in full support.

It has not been an easy month, but man, has it been worth it.

Here’s my mom’s testimonial:

Lisa,

I sincerely want to thank you for introducing and encouraging me to begin the 90-day carnivore change! I was very skeptical that I would have the willpower to keep from getting off track. However, it has been much easier than I expected! I do not have the cravings for sweet snacks I was accustomed to having with the “low carb” diet. I do enjoy the Carnivore Snax, especially the skirt steak! I started this challenge in January 3rd but didn’t record my weight until January 5th when I weighed in at 164.6. Today, February 5th, I weigh 150.2 pounds! I am sleeping better than I have in several years and waking up feeling rested and fully awake! I used to toss and turn at night trying to find a comfortable position to sleep. I am loving the benefits of this challenge and look forward to adding additional foods that the carnivore lifestyle enjoys! Thank you so much!

Your loving and appreciative Mom,

Bedy

When you choose to let go of the foods that are harming you, the foods that do not give you what you need to thrive, primarily foods that are chock full of carbohydrates, your body has a chance to finally heal.

I too am seeing a lot of benefits from the past month. I gave up dairy and am in the process of giving up coffee.

My recovery and sleep are much better, I’m not experiencing stomach issues and bloating, and I’m down 15 pounds myself.

As much as I love the taste of coffee and dairy, it is now obvious to me that those foods don’t love me back and are honestly just giving me inflammation and harming my personal health.

The thing that I love is that she and Dad chose to change their way of eating to improve their health, to reduce their chances of developing cognitive disorder and Alzheimer’s.

They chose a longer, fuller life enjoying their kids and grandchildren over the fleeting enjoyment of sweets, carbs, and other foods that weren’t fueling them in the right way.

Choosing to live this way takes dedication and deliberate action, but the benefits are immeasurable, especially when looking at overall, holistic health and quality of life.

I’m so proud of my in-laws for making these hard choices. I’m proud of them for choosing a tougher road now to have an easier rest of their lives, filled with wellness and activity with their families.

God wants us to live healthy, fruitful lives, doing the work that he has created us to fulfill.

God loves us so much and he created us to be active and healthy.

Psalms 139:14 says:

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, my soul knows this well.

I have been truly blessed to be a part of my mom and dad’s health journey. To watch them make these choices to change their health for the better fills me with joy.

Even though it’s hard, remember, that God loves you, and living a healthy life makes a difference not only for you but for all those that love you.
