135,000 People Taught Us, High Fat, Lower Risk — The P.U.R.E Study
When “healthy eating” left me cold and starving
There was a time when I only ate salads, thinking I was doing the right thing. But I was constantly cold, moody, and starving. I wasn’t thriving — I was barely functioning. Once I gave my body real food and real fuel, everything changed. I learned that restriction isn’t the answer.
I want to share one of the largest nutrition studies ever done — the PURE study results — and why its findings matter for moms and seniors.
It’s one of the 10 studies I that I’m reviewing and sharing with you.
One of the largest nutrition studies ever
In 2017, researchers followed over 135,000 people from 18 countries. This wasn’t a small, short-term experiment — it tracked real diets and real health outcomes across five continents.
They found that people eating high fat diets had a lower risk of dying during the study. Those eating more carbohydrates had a higher risk — clear evidence in the carbs vs fat debate.
You’re putting yourself at risk
If you’re like I was — always chasing “low-fat” everything — you might have been unknowingly putting yourself in danger.
For moms juggling family, work, and constant energy crashes, low-fat cereal, skim milk, and crackers can leave you drained. For seniors, cutting healthy fats can mean less support for your brain, hormones, and heart health. The healthy fats benefits shown in the PURE study can’t be ignored.
Healthy fats may protect you
For decades, we were told that fat clogs arteries and causes heart disease. That advice came from weaker studies — and it stuck.
The PURE study challenges that old story, showing that high fat eating patterns from foods like meat, eggs, butter, and olive oil may actually lower risk of disease and early death.
Try small changes
You don’t have to overhaul everything overnight. Try one small change:
- Add avocado to your breakfast instead of toast.
- Swap margarine for real butter.
- Replace that afternoon granola bar with a couple of boiled eggs.
These swaps make it easier to benefit from healthy fats while reducing processed carbs.
Rethink what you’ve been told
If you’ve been afraid of fat, it’s time to take another look. Real food, including healthy fats, helps your body thrive — and the science is finally catching up. The PURE study shows high fat lower risk across a massive, diverse population.
