Consistency and Accountability Tips to Make Diet and Exercise Changes Stick
Hello everyone, and happy Tuesday!
I wanted to take a moment to discuss accountability with you. Over the weekend, I had a conversation with someone about the challenges of accountability. They were facing difficulties in maintaining accountability, particularly when making healthier food choices and staying consistent with their workout routine, especially weightlifting or any physical activity. The struggle lay in the accountability aspect.
This is something I can certainly relate to, especially as a busy mom and someone with a full-time job. Life can become hectic, leading to decision fatigue or exhaustion that makes it tempting to skip workouts or opt for easy, less nutritious food choices.
For those of us with busy lives, the concept of accountability is crucial. Whether it’s juggling work, family, or other responsibilities, it’s easy to find ourselves drained and tempted to take the easy route – be it skipping a workout or choosing convenience over nutrition.
This is where community and coaching play significant roles. As a health and fitness coach myself, I understand the struggles of maintaining consistency without a form of accountability. Even I have a coach who guides me through workouts twice a week, ensuring that I dedicate time to strength training. Yet, I know that two sessions aren’t enough, so I also commit to additional workouts and collaborate with my coach to keep progressing.
Accountability drives me to report my progress (or lack thereof) to someone, motivating me to stay on track. This element of accountability is also present when you’re part of a community. Having a workout partner or someone to plan meals with, like my husband and I do, alleviates decision fatigue and makes the journey more manageable.
The lack of accountability is often a stumbling block to consistency, whether in nutrition, exercise, or any facet of life. Instead of striving for perfection, the key is consistency. Even if we stumble – missing a week of workouts due to life’s demands, for instance – having someone to be accountable to helps prevent a downward spiral. This person could be a coach, a community member, or someone who supports you.
So, whether you’re already on a health journey or looking to begin one, remember the importance of accountability. How will you stay consistent? Who can you lean on? Whether through a coach, a community, or a partner, having that support system can make a significant difference on your path to improved health and fitness.
Wishing you all a wonderful evening. Goodbye!
